Team 5492 Winner's Circle Robo Jockeys works to build and promote a community of innovation and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) appreciation.
The Winner’s Circle Robo Jockeys (WCRJ) is a FIRST robotics team competing in the international FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Our mission is to build STEM appreciation and skills among high school students in the Louisville metro area. Students learn collaborative problem-solving, project management, entrepreneurship, engineering, and programming skills from dedicated mentors who volunteer hundreds of hours each robotics competition season.
The team has six weeks to design, build, and test a functioning robot, which then competes against thousands of other teams’ robots from around the world through tournaments held in March and April.

By working towards a technical objective under strict time and budget constraints, the Winner’s Circle experience is similar to mechanical design in the professional world.
Founded in 2014, our team started small, but are now composed of roughly 32 high school students from around the community, as well as several mentors. Our team represents ten public, private, and home schools from around Kentucky. Students here have the opportunity to learn engineering or entrepreneurship through our mentors, who come from a variety of local companies, including UPS, GE, and FirstBuild, ensuring our members learn as well as grow from their experiences here.
In 2015, we received two Rookie Inspiration Awards and the Highest Rookie Seed Award. We also
volunteered at various community events to promote STEM throughout the Kentuckiana region.

In 2016, the team founded Girl’s Engineering Time (GET), an organization that supports U of L female
engineering students and female high school students in developing their passions for innovation,
especially in STEM. This year, GET is in the process of designing and building a solar-powered plane.
