FIRST ("For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology") is a non-profit program founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Since its inception, FIRST has inspired appreciation and passion for STEM and entrepreneurship among students K-12. FIRST designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities while emphasizing valuable life skills such as “gracious professionalism,” “cooperation”, and hands-on practice with technology and entrepreneurship.
